21 Old and Beautiful Female Names for Your Fiction Story

It always seems difficult to find a perfect name for your Fiction/Fantasy/Sci-Fi character. Everything is perfect, down to the last detail! But the name...Here are 21 Old and Beautiful Female Names for Your Fiction Story!

This is the follow up post to last week's 21 Old and Beautiful Male Names for Your Fiction Story. Most of these names are not often encountered and would make perfect names for your female character. 

 Yes, they are in alphabetical order this time! (*scattered applause*) 

 (Some of these names are still in use, but they sound old enough and poetic enough for any heroine!)

 (Note: most of these names are derived from Anglo-Saxon, Irish, Welsh, Scandinavian and Gaelic) 

1. Aideen or Aydeen: (Irish) meaning "fire"

2. Bayan: (male and female) [pronounced BAY-in] (Russian?) meaning "clear"

3. Bega: [pronounced BAY-gah] (Irish) meaning "beautiful"

4. Breage [pronounced BREE-geh] (Irish) meaning "bridge"

5. Corinne: (Old English) meaning "beautiful maiden"

6. Dagmar: (Scandinavian) meaning "a mother"

7. Edda: (Scandinavian) meaning "one with clear vision"

8. Elin: (Welsh) meaning "light" or "most beautiful"

9. Evin: (Old English) meaning "strong" and "fighter" -I think this one is also still in use...

10. Ethine: (Irish) meaning "ardent/graceful" and "little fire"

11. Freya: (Scandinavian derivative of 'Frigga') meaning "lady"

12. Faella: (Old English) meaning "to fall" or "to fell"

13. Frigga: (Norse) meaning "love"

14. Faine: (male or female) [pronounced FAIN] (Old English) meaning "good-natured"
Sounds like a sweet character, yeah?

15. Iona: (Irish) meaning "blessed"

16. Luith or Luth: (Norse) meaning "fame" or "tribe/folk"

17. Marne: (Irish derivative of Latin) meaning "marine" or "sea water"

18. Meredith: (Gaelic) meaning "protector of the sea"

19. Ondine: (Irish derivative of Latin) meaning "little wave"

20. Wystyl: (Welsh- quite rare) meaning "flowering"- I am not 100% sure, but I think 'wysteria' was derived from this name or vice versa.

21. Yvon or Yvonne: (Old French) meaning "yew" or "archer"

That's all I've got for today, folks! However, I came across SO MANY cool female names in my research that I thought (if I have enough interest) I may do a 21 MORE Old & Beautiful Female Names in the future. Let me know what you think!

    Oh my gosh! My middle name is Corrine, a variation of Corinne! That's awesome!!
    YES I have trouble finding the perfect names for my characters! I normally have their names somewhat match their personality or if I see a name that I like, I use it, but still, it takes me forever to pick out the perfect one! (I'm actually looking for a name for a character who is a prince. If you have any preferences or ideas for princely names, I'm open for ideas :) )
    I would totally be interested in a variety of names from other cultures!
    The names Corinne and Meredith and Elizabeth are my favorite old female names.
    Are you going to post any old male names in the future?

    HEY! My middle name is Maureen, a variation of Marne. It even has a similar meaning(Maureen=star of the sea) :D
    1. Do you ever have trouble finding the perfect name for your female character/heroine? And what is your opinion on female villains?
    ALL THE TIME. I think female villains are a great thing when they are done right. I greatly dislike a female villain that is portrayed as seductive, because that just drives me insane. It is such a cliche that's so unnecessary. Cruella de Ville is not seductive and she is an awesome villain, that just so happens to be beautiful(No need to be seductive).

    YES, PLEASE.
    3. What is your favorite old (female) name?
    My favorite old female names are Charity, Calypso, and Marilyn.

      Really? Maureen is a very lovely name! I think a lot of names nowadays are variants of names people don't really use anymore. I absolutely agree with the seductive female villain cliche. It gets to be so annoying. Those are all very nice names! I may do a Greek-based female characters name post. Calypso might be on that list. ;)

C an anyone relate? You think up an amazing character: appearance, quirks, mindset, beliefs, reactions, everything. This is the best character ever! Dissociation with Writing

H ey guys. It's been awhile. Today I wanted to talk about something that I've been having some issues with lately. Maybe you can relate? This is dissociation with writing.
